While I Sleep – A Bedtime Prayer

Written by Lisa DeVinney on . Posted in poetry

 Lord, come and sit beside me while I sleep;
For I know, in Thy goodness, Thou wilt keep
Me safely tucked beneath Thy sheltering wings.
Then, even as I sleep, my soul will sing
Its praises back to Thee, as Thou dost wait
For me to take my rest; and then awake,
Refreshed, renewed to praise Thee, yet again.
For Thou dost fill my heart with Heaven-scents
Of blessings and new mercies for the day.
And, as I close my eyes, I also pray
That Thou wouldst bless the ones I love, tonight.
Be near them as they greet the morning light.
Then, one more blessing, Lord, I ask of Thee…
Tomorrow, make a blessing out of me.
