True Love

“Herein is [true] love, not that we love God, but that He loved us,
And sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.” 1 John 4:10 KJV

True Love wept -
For those who could not see
That He was all they longed for;
But not what they expected.

True Love prayed -
For those who would receive
The Truth, for who He claimed to be;
For those that would follow…for me.

True Love groaned -
In deepest agony.
Before the cross, in the Garden;
Alone with the Father…separation looming.

True Love cried out -
“My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?”
That wrenching moment on the cross,
When the Father turned away.

True Love poured
His precious blood-sacrifice
Upon the altar of forgiveness;
A sweet fragrance to the Father.

True Love conquered
Death and sin…and rose victorious
From His flesh-bound grave!
Halleluiah!

Now, True Love waits -
With outstretched arms
of mercy and grace,
Once again
Inviting you and me
into His redeeming embrace.

Yes, Jesus loves me!
