The Enemy: A Day Late, and an Eternity Short

Written by Lisa DeVinney on . Posted in poetry

He sought to drag my soul into despair,
To strip away my faith; leave my heart bare.
He longed for me to curse You for my fate.
But Satan had arrived, Lord, far too late!

For You’d already reached Your mighty hand
To rescue me; and promised that Your plan
Is still at work. Even amidst the pain,
Your blessings fell on me, like springtime rain.

So I will keep my eyes steadfast on You;
And watch the rain bring forth a faith, renewed.
I trust You, Lord, to do a work in me.
And, one day, that completed work I’ll see.

He seeks to drag my heart into despair.
But praise You, Lord! You are already there
To lift me up and guide me safely through.
Oh Lord, I will forever worship You.

“I will love You, O LORD, my strength.
The LORD is my rockand my fortress and my deliverer;
My God, my strength, in whom I will trust;
My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised;
So shall I be saved from my enemies.”
Psalm 18:1-3 NKJV
