Happy New Year!

Written by Lisa DeVinney on . Posted in poetry

May all that lies before you draw
You closer to the Lord,
Until you find your heart and soul
Forever firmly moored
To that same Rock that’s been secure
Throughout the tests of time,
That rises far above the waves,
Atop the steepest climb.

And may you find a peaceful respite
‘Neath His sheltering wing,
A place to rest your weary soul,
And confidently cling
Tight to the One who calms the wind
And whispers, “Peace, be still,”
Not only to the churning waves,
But to your tossing will.

And in the year that lies ahead
May you know you are blessed
Because the Lord has promised He
Will give you what is best.
He cannot give you any less,
So trust His grace for you,
Not just today…next week…next month,
But for the whole year through.

“Do not remember the past events,
pay no attention to things of old.
Look, I am about to do something new;
even now it is coming. Do you not see it?
Indeed, I will make a way in the wilderness,
rivers in the desert.”
Isaiah 43:18-19 HCSB

My Christmas Wish-List

Written by Lisa DeVinney on . Posted in poetry

For ears to hear the words they do not say,
To hear You whisper to me as I pray,
And hear Your music in the stars and seas,
Lord, these are gifts that I would ask of Thee.

For eyes to see the needs that go unmet,
To see the angels round us You have set,
And see the splendor of Your majesty,
Lord, these are gifts that I would ask of Thee.

And for a heart like Yours, compassion filled,
Surrendered to Your own omniscient will,
A heart that follows You more faithfully,
Lord, this above all else I ask of Thee.

And Lord, if You would grant these gifts to me,
Then I would use each one to honor Thee.

“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above,
and comes down from the Father of lights,
with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.”
James 1:17

Glory Everywhere!

“…may I be one who never grows weary of seeing Your glory
in all things, even ordinary things.”
* Beth Moore

Lord, may I never grow weary of seeing
     Your majesty in the mountains
     Your purity in the snow
Your creativity in the flowers and birds
Your grace in the swaying of the willows
Your strength in the ocean waves
Your laughter in the babbling brook
     Your power in the storm
     Your promise in the rainbow
Your new mercies in each sunrise
     Your beauty in each sunset
Your peace in the quiet of the night
Your glory… even in the ordinary things

“Who…is like you, Lord?
Who is like you—
    majestic in holiness,
awesome in glory,
    working wonders?”
Exodus 15:11 NIV

Listen to Your Craving

Written by Lisa DeVinney on . Posted in poetry

“He has also set eternity in the human heart…”
Ecclesiastes 3:11 NIV

“Listen to your craving” –
That’s what the billboard said,
As larger-than-life snack cakes
Loomed high up, overhead.

But what if we instead would
Attend the need within
To know our Heavenly Father,
Have Him forgive our sin?

The Psalmist knew that craving,
And knew just where to run.
He sought only the favor
Of the Almighty One.

God puts that same desire
In every human heart.
But how we satisfy it
Is what sets us apart.

God wants to be your answer.
He’ll quench that thirst within.
You’ll find Him in His written Word.
Friend, won’t you run to Him?

“As the deer pants for streams of water,
so my soul pants for you, my God.”
Psalm 42:1 NIV

The Only Way

Written by Lisa DeVinney on . Posted in poetry

Show me the way, Lord.
Give me some sign;
My will surrendered…
Lost, now, in Thine.

Take, Thou, mine hand,
And lead me today.
No more my own path;
Only Thy way.

“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart;
and lean not unto thine own understanding.
In all thy ways acknowledge him,
and he shall direct thy paths.”
Proverbs 3:5-6
