Love’s Got It Covered

Written by Lisa DeVinney on . Posted in poetry

I had a teeny, tiny cut
On my ring fingertip.
And my, how such a little wound
Can be so sensitive!

For even just a little bump
Could irritate that sore.
And thinking ‘bout it, course, could make it
Hurt just that much more.

I finally grabbed a Band-Aid and
I covered up that spot.
And though it didn’t disappear,
It really helped a lot.

And that’s the way some heart-wounds are,
When we let God’s love reign.
His love can cover many wounds,
And soothe away the pain.

So if, today, you’ve got an open
Wound deep in your heart,
Why not let God’s love bandage it,
And let the healing start?

God sees the wounds and knows your pain;
And wants what’s best for you.
So let Him bind them with His love –
It’s what He longs to do.

“Hatred stirs up conflict,
but love covers over all wrongs.”
Proverbs 10:12 NIV

Simple Service Orders

“Serve the LORD with gladness…”
Psalm 100:2 KJV

Serve the Lord with gladness
Not begrudging

Lead a soul to Jesus
Without judging

Remember that the Lord
Is God, alone

And don’t set someone else
Upon His throne

In the Eye of Your Storm

Written by Lisa DeVinney on . Posted in poetry

“And [Jesus] arose and rebuked the wind,
and said unto the sea, ‘Peace, be still.’
And the wind ceased,
and there was a great calm.”
Mark 4:39 NKJV

“Like the eye of a storm, peace prevails in
God’s presence, even when chaos ensues all around.
God has a sacred place of immunity from anything
outside His will for us. He will meet you there…”
* Priscilla Shirer

Though a storm is raging all around you,
And though you’ve been beset by doubts and cares,
There’s a place of peace amid the fury.
Child, look for Me, for I’ll be there.

I’ll meet you in the center of your storm;
And there, you’ll find a respite for your soul,
As I remind you I am there with you;
And have the storm within my full control.

So when you are afraid, remember this -
That when it’s time, I’ll call out, “Peace, be still!”
And you will find your faith in Me grow stronger,
As you then see your storm bend to My will.

“Whenever I am afraid,
I will trust in You.”
Psalm 56:3 NKJV

Lean On Me

Written by Lisa DeVinney on . Posted in poetry

Is anything too hard for thee?
Then, precious one, just lean on Me.
And when the burdens press, you’ll see
I’m here, My child. So lean on Me.

For I see all the pain you hide,
The struggles warring deep inside.
And I know where the end will be;
So trust My heart, and lean on Me.

Remember, too, that I’ve been there
In agony, and deep despair;
That I know all your hopes and dreams.
I’ll help you through; just lean on Me.

For I love you; and faithfully
Will do what’s best. Just lean on Me.

“Ah Lord GOD! behold, thou hast made the heaven
and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm,
and there is nothing too hard for thee.”
Jeremiah 32:17

The Night I Walked With God

Written by Lisa DeVinney on . Posted in poetry

I walked along, in awe and praise,
with God Himself, the Ancient of Days.
I listened as He spoke to me
of His dear Son, and eternity.
He led me down a street of gold,
where I encountered saints of old.
The Tree of Life stretched overhead;
and by the tree, a river spread
out from His throne, so crystal clear
I felt compelled to wander near,
And reach my hand to touch the stream -
But found that it was all a dream.

I woke, as tears spilled from my eyes.
Oh, was I there, beyond the skies;
so near my Father’s heavenly throne,
with Him in His celestial home?

Ah, no. ‘Twas just a lovely dream.
But as I lay in bed, it seemed
That He was near me, just the same;
And whispering softly… just my name.
And oh, the peace that covered me
Like blankets, soft and swaddling;
Wrapped tightly in His warm embrace –
If only I could see His face…
If only just His face…
His face…

“I will lie down and sleep in peace…”
Psalm 4:8a
