We Receive Your Grace!

“We receive You grace!”
~ from a facebook post by Gloria Spears, 1/9/13

We lift up weary hands
That have been toiling all day through.
We empty them of burdens
As we cast them, Lord, on You.
And we receive Your grace.

We lift up moistened hands
That have been wiping tears away.
Those tears are in Your bottle;
And that’s why our hearts can say
That we receive Your grace.

We lift up joyful hands,
So full of blessings from above.
We give them back to You, Lord,
As a token of our love.
For we’ve received Your grace.

Thank You, Lord!

“Indeed, we have all received grace after grace
from His fullness,”
John 1:16 HCSB

‘Tis Two Weeks Before Christmas

Written by Lisa DeVinney on . Posted in poetry

‘Tis two weeks before Christmas and snow’s gently falling,
Our tree is now up. Friends and family are calling.
The stockings I’ve hung by the chimney with fear,
Because I’m far from ready, and Christmas is near.

But at moments like this when some panic besets,
I stop for a time so that I won’t forget
That the reason we celebrate this time of year
Is the gift of our Lord – above all gifts most dear.

It’s the coming of God-in-the-flesh to this earth,
His pure, sinless life; His foretold virgin birth.
His life here of service, His death on the tree;
Then His rising again to redeem you and me.

And this is the gift He would cherish from us -
Not this buying, and spending, and holiday rush;
Just hearts that would love Him and serve Him today,
Reflecting His light, showing others the Way.

"You must have the same attitude
that Christ Jesus had...
he gave up his divine privileges;
he took the humble position of a slave
and was born as a human being."
Philippians 2:5-7a NLT

He Makes You Matter

Written by Lisa DeVinney on . Posted in poetry

“God has a plan to make you mighty, and make you matter.”
* Beth Moore

Do you ever feel like you don’t matter in this world;
Like if you disappeared, no one would care?
Well let me tell you, friend, that can’t be farther from the truth;
‘Cause if you’ve breathed a single breath of air

Then God has got a plan for you that He’ll work out for good;
That’s full of hope in all that He can do.
He’s got a special purpose that He wants you to fulfill,
With His own grace and strength at work in you.

So if you choose to live for Him, you’ll surely leave some mark
That lets the world know you, indeed, were there.
And even better is the mark that doesn’t point to you,
But leaves the name of Jesus everywhere.

“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus
to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
Ephesians 2:10 NIV

Veterans Day Prayer

Written by Lisa DeVinney on . Posted in poetry

In memory of the ones who gave their lives,
In honor of those serving ‘cross the sea,
In gratitude to those who guard our shores,
Oh Lord, this day we lift our thanks to Thee.

We thank Thee for the courage they possess,
And for their strength to face adversity.
Then most of all, dear Lord, we thank Thee for
This land where we can live in liberty.

May we forever fly sweet freedom’s flag
Under the banner of Thy watchful eye;
And ne’er forget the ones who serve us still,
Who every day for freedom risk their lives.

Please bless them and protect them ‘neath Thy wing.
And give to them Thy mercies new, each morn.
Then when they lie in bed at night, dear Lord,
May Thy sweet peace their sleepy eyes adorn.

Then when their selfless service is complete,
And when the task Thou gavest them is done,
Lord, bless them for the sacrifices made,
As Thou dost bring our heroes safely home.

“‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the LORD,
‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you,
plans to give you hope and a future.’”
Jeremiah 29:11 NIV
